Ferry Ride

We are very glad that we made our reservation for the ferry both going to Newfoundland and back to Nova Scotia as we have talked to others who have not been able to travel on the days that they wanted.  According to the Marine Atlantic website they were hoping to be back to a normal schedule sometime this past week.

We drove down a day early to the parking lot for the ferry as we were told that we could park there overnight before our date to depart.  We lined up and were happy to see that we had entertainment that evening.  And there was a full moon overhead.  A ferry left that night at 11:45 pm and after they were loaded they repositioned us in the parking lot in readiness for the next days 11:45 am. departure.

One needs to be in line two hours prior so they can begin to load the vehicles.  So during the night I thought I heard vehicles in the lot.  There were a good number of 18 wheelers sitting there in one area of the lot.  So a ferry did come into the dock and I watched as it left at 6:15 am with the 18 wheelers from the lot on board.

This time the ride seem long as we gained our 1/2 hour back and the ferry we rode on normally comes from the eastern part of Newfoundland so it had mostly sleeping cabins.  Therefore there was not as much to walk around and see during the ride.  This ferry from the eastern shores normally takes 12 hours travel time to Nova Scotia.  Ours from the western side was 7 hours.

I have to admit that I was a little sad to leave this province as the scenery was beautiful and the people were all so nice.
