Canada Day/4th of July

Canada Day falls on the 1st of July and since we are vacationing this summer in the Maritime Provinces, we decided to join in the fun.  We spent the day in Summerside, PEI by walking along the harbor, visiting the shops and listening to the music.

Since it was opening day, we walked over to the racetrack and watched a few of the harness races.  Reminds me of my hometown where there was harness racing and later on the same track stock car racing which continues today.  We did not watch the fireworks as the mosquitoes were bad and I had several bites from our previous campground that swelled and were itchy

The 4th of July was a quiet day for us and it was nice to see one person in the campground had both a Canadian and American flag.  Frank loves the movie "1776" and bought the DVD several years ago so it is a tradition to watch that every summer.  Okay he watches more than once during the summer.

On to Nova Scotia where we are staying in Annapolis Royal home to the oldest settlement in Canada.  We attended the Candlelight Graveyard Tour near Fort Anne where we learned a lot about the history of the area. This historic town has only about 500 residents but they had a wonderful Farmer's Market with mostly eggs, organic meats, crafts, breads, etc.  The strawberries sold out fast and apparently it may be a little early for most veggies.  When I bought some raffle tickets for a quilt and was asked where we live, I told the lady just north of Austin.  Her remark was "that is where Rip Esselstyn lives and I just bought his book Engine 2 Diet after watching Forks over Knives." Fun to talk to a fellow quilter and a plant strong enthusiast.
