What a lovely place to visit. This past week we spent visiting the eastern part of the Island. We drove out to East Point to visit the lighthouse there. It is just mostly a museum but I believe it still emits a light. The St. Lawrence Seaway, Northumberland Strait and the Atlantic Ocean all meet here.
Along the way we stopped to walk across this boardwalk to the beach. The walk starts where the trees end and is built on top of this marsh that is actually dry at times. However it is delicate land where birds, etc. thrive. I am standing on top of the dune where the boardwalk ends and the beach begins.
On the beach we encountered a guy and his sister who were on holiday and camping along the way. She has been living in New Zealand for the past 16 years and was visiting her brother in Ottawa. We had a wonderful conversation about her country and I have that on my wish list for travel. On another day and another lighthouse an older woman came over for some nice conversation and wondered if I was also Irish to which I replied yes. She invited us to her house to meet her French sisters-in-law who are talented in all things crocheting, knitting, and quilting. This is the part I enjoy the most about traveling -- the people I meet along the way.
There are lots farms that are mostly
potatoes although we did see a field of corn. Fish farming is found all
along the coasts. We finally stopped in a seafood retail shop and the proprietor offered to
let us try some lobster for $5.00. The result was a couple of lobsters
and some scallops for our refrigerator.
